Mission Statement

Port Moody Robotics aims to improve our robotics skills and overcome our obstacles to innovate in our field, and ignite the passion for STEM in the next generation of engineers! We use FIRST Robotics as a way to inspire other students to join us and build future careers in STEM.

About Us

We are the Port Moody Secondary School Robotics Club, also known as PMR or Port Moody Robotics. We are a club consisting of three (3) robotics teams situated in Port Moody Secondary School, in the Tri-Cities, in Metro Vancouver. We hold regularly scheduled meetings where we build robots, design and 3D print with Computer Assisted Design (CAD), and work on sponsorships and outreach missions.

We participate in the First Tech Challenge, also known as the FTC, run by FIRST Robotics.

We have 3 teams:
PMR Phoenix, FTC Team #23430
PMR Inferno, FTC Team #24232
PMR Ignite, FTC Team #27560

Members on these teams work together to develop the best and brightest robot designs, incorporating collaboration within the club and outside the club to create and innovate in engineering.

Our members are able to fully immerse themselves in the beauty of STEAM and its fundamental concepts. The club gives the opportunity to design, build, and compete with a collaborative effort on the team. We talk with STEAM subject matter experts, utilize professional designing and Computer Assisted Design (CAD) software, and use industrial grade materials. The club gives our members to gain credentials and connect with the trades and STEAM industries.

In competition, we are able to network and learn with other local teams in the Tri-Cities area of Vancouver. The connections and networking aspects grow our influence and our ability to reach subject matter experts in STEAM and the trades.

The club provides a nurturing environment where critical and creative thinking, intuitive solutions, and innovative ideas are valued and explored on. Members are given significant freedom to pursue unique and brilliant designs in their work, boosting us further through competition.

Through significant time, resource, and creative freedom, we can grow together in fulfilling our mission statement of growing in STEAM, and lending our knowledge to the next generation of engineers.

To spark interest in STEAM, our club visits middle schools in our school district (School District 43 – Coquitlam) and provides presentations, exposing them to FIRST Robotics and practical applications of STEAM design. This aids in our mission goal of building future careers in STEAM and inspiring current and future students to join our club and gain more experience in STEAM and the trades.

We have presented to multiple schools in the past couple years, giving presentations at major feeder schools such as Hillcrest Middle School and École Kwayhquitlum Middle School. These presentations spread our word throughout the community and help us boost sustainability in members, with more people interested in joining our club with the lower bar of entry compared to traditional teams in FIRST Robotics.

History

We started in 2019 with the First Robotics Challenge, as team 7781 – an archived version of the page from the FRC days is still in fact public on this website. We participated in three seasons in the First Robotics Challenge:

2019 – Destination: Deep Space

2020 – Infinite Recharge

2023 – Charged Up

In the 2023-2024 season, we switched over to the First Tech Challenge. We have participated in three seasons in the First Tech Challenge:

2023 – Centerstage

2024 – Into the Deep

2025 – Decode
