The work of our teachers and mentors is integral to our success as a robotics club and team. They volunteer countless hours helping us throughout the year, whether it is in building the robot or organizing fun events. They guide and inspire students to become problem solvers, resourceful engineers, leaders and innovators!

I am one of the sponsor teachers for PMSS Robotics #7781. This is our second year competing with FIRST. The experience, to say the least, has been amazing.  There have been so many positives that we can take away from the competition.  The students have learned so much about coding, design, administration, fund raising, safety, tools and teamwork. For this, the team and I are grateful.

Our first year with FIRST (kind of fun to write) created excitement within the school and a sense of fulfilment amongst the team.  We are proud of our accomplishments and hope to see more individual and team successes this year.

Go PMSS Robotics #7781!

I am another of the teacher sponsors for PMSS Robotics #7781. I was approached by a couple of students in 2018 to sponsor their robotics club. Their initial idea was to tinker and play with different electronics and to share this with other students that might be interested, but we soon discovered FIRST Robotics Championship. With grants and deadlines approaching within days we jumped headfirst into the world of FIRST Robotics! Our school’s rookie season was a whirlwind culminating in participating in the playoff rounds of the Canadian Pacific Regionals and gaining a tremendous amount of experience in a very short time.

We are now expanding the program at the school and within the community. We have begun to reach out to other schools to share our experience and to get more students involved in robotics. And we continue to reach out to local businesses to build partnerships with the school community.

I am a Technology Education teacher at Port Moody Secondary School (PMSS). Before joining PMSS in 2009, I had worked in other school districts teaching a variety of Technology Education subjects such as Electronics, Engineering, Drafting and Design, Power Technology, Woodwork, Metalwork, and Jewelry Making. I have two Bachelor’s degrees: one in Mechanical Engineering, and the second one in Technology Education. My favorite subject is Engineering; so, this is why I decided to be a sponsor-teacher for our Robotics club.
